BURRACO

Challenge the computer in the classic Italian card game. Meld runs and sets, open the pot and be first to go out.

Difficulty

Quick rules

Goal: be first to meld your entire hand (go out).

Turn: draw a card from the deck (or the whole pot if already open and available), then you may meld/add cards, then discard one card.

Melds: sets (3+ same rank) or runs (3+ sequential same suit, ace high or low). 2s and jokers are wild, but only one wild per combination is allowed.

Pot: to unlock it you need at least one meld on the table. Whoever takes it adds all 11 cards to their hand.

Burraco: any combination of 7+ cards, run or set. Clean if made of real cards only, dirty if it contains a wild.

Going out: requires at least one burraco — until you have one you must keep at least 2 cards in hand. The winner scores bonus points; the opponent loses points for cards left in hand.

How to play Burraco

Each hand starts with 11 cards per player, drawn from two combined decks (108 cards with jokers). On your turn you draw a card from the deck — or take the whole 11-card pot if it's already been opened by someone and not yet taken — then you may meld sets (3+ cards of the same rank) or runs (3+ sequential cards of the same suit) on the table, or add cards to existing melds. The turn always ends with a discard.

2s and jokers are wild and can replace any card in runs and sets, but only one wild per combination is allowed. In runs the ace can sit low (A-2-3) or high (Q-K-A). Any combination of at least 7 cards — run or set — is called a burraco: clean if made only of real cards, dirty if it contains a wild. To go out you need at least one burraco.

Why I built it

Burraco is the most searched card game online in Italy, yet good free options are scarce: most sites require sign-up, show intrusive ads, or push paid multiplayer. This version is built to be the opposite: open the page and play right away against the computer, no account, no banners, following traditional Italian rules. Like the other games on roversia.it — starting with Machiavelli — it's written entirely in vanilla JavaScript, no framework or external libraries.

Free Burraco against the computer, no download needed

This is a free Burraco game against the computer: no human opponents to wait for, no lobby, no delays. A match is always ready, right in your browser, on desktop or mobile. There's nothing to download or install — open this page and start playing right away, with the option to install it as an app only if you want to.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Burraco?

Each player gets 11 cards. On your turn you draw a card from the deck — or take the pot, if available — and discard one. You can meld sets (three or more cards of the same rank) or runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit), with at most one wild per combination. Whoever goes out first wins the hand, but going out requires at least one burraco.

What do you need to make a Burraco?

A burraco is any combination of at least 7 cards: a run of the same suit or a set of the same rank. It's clean when made of real cards only, dirty when it contains a wild (a 2 or a joker).
