The classic Italian card game with the Neapolitan deck, free in your browser: play against the computer, capture single cards or sum combinations, sweep the table and win primiera and settebello. No ads, no tokens, no sign-up.

How to play Scopa
Scopa is played with a deck of 40 Neapolitan cards: four suits (coins, cups, swords, clubs) with ten values each, from 1 to 10 (ace, 2-7, jack=8, knight=9, king=10). Each hand starts with 3 cards per player and 4 face-up cards on the table. On your turn you play a card from your hand: if its value matches a table card, or the sum of several table cards, capturing is mandatory — you choose which cards to take, as long as the sum matches. If no capture is possible, the card stays face up on the table, available for future captures.
When hands empty out and the deck still has cards, 3 more are dealt to each player without refreshing the table, until the deck is fully exhausted. Any cards left on the table after the last capture automatically go to whoever captured last. If a capture clears the table completely, you sweep the table (scopa, 1 bonus point), except when it happens on the very last card played in the hand.
Scoring: cards, coins, settebello, primiera and napola
At the end of each hand, 1 point goes to whoever captured more cards overall and 1 point to whoever has more coin cards (on a tie, neither point is awarded). Settebello, the seven of coins, is always worth 1 point to whoever captures it. Primiera is the most technical point: for each suit, only the highest-value captured card counts, following a scale that doesn't match normal card order — 7 is worth 21 points, 6 is worth 18, the ace is worth 16, then 5, 4, 3, 2 (15, 14, 13, 12), and face cards are only worth 10. The four best values, one per suit, are summed: whoever totals more wins the primiera point. The end-of-hand summary also shows exactly which card, per suit, made up your primiera and the CPU's. On top of these four points come the sweep points, one for each cleared table.
There's also napola: if you capture the ace, two and three of coins, you get a 3-point bonus; if you capture more in sequence from the ace (4, 5, 6...) the bonus grows by 1 point per extra card, up to a maximum of 10 points if you capture the entire coins sequence from 1 to 10.
Simplifications in this version
When more than one capture is possible for the same played card (say, a matching single card and, at the same time, a sum combination), this version lets you freely choose which one to make, as long as the selected cards' sum exactly matches the played value: this is one of the most common rule variants. The classic rules on mandatory capture, sweeps, 3-card re-dealing and scoring (cards, coins, settebello, primiera, sweeps) remain unchanged.
Why I built it
Scopa is probably the single most searched Italian card game, yet most of what's online is ad-stuffed apps with tokens to buy. None of that here: no sign-up, no ads, instant play against the computer, installable as an app and working offline too. Like the other games on roversia.it — Scala 40, Machiavelli, Burraco — it's written entirely in vanilla JavaScript, no framework or external libraries.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Scopa?
It's played with a deck of 40 Neapolitan cards (coins, cups, swords, clubs, values 1 to 10). Each player gets 3 cards and 4 cards are placed face up on the table. On your turn you play a card: if its value matches a table card, or the sum of several table cards, you capture them; otherwise the card stays face up. When hands empty out, 3 more cards are dealt to each player, without adding more to the table, until the deck runs out. Cards left on the table after the last capture go to whoever captured last.
What is a "scopa" (sweep) in Scopa?
A sweep happens when a capture clears the table completely: each sweep is worth 1 point. By convention, a sweep isn't counted if it happens on the very last card played in the whole hand, even if it clears the table.
How is scoring calculated at the end of a hand?
At the end of a hand, 1 point goes to whoever captured more cards overall, 1 point to whoever has more coins, 1 point to whoever captured settebello, and 1 point to whoever has the highest primiera. On a tie for cards, coins, or primiera, no one gets the point. Sweep points are added on top. The match is won once someone reaches the target score with more points than the opponent.
What is primiera in Scopa?
Primiera is calculated by picking, for each of the four suits, the highest-value captured card following a specific scale: 7 is worth 21 points, 6 is worth 18, the ace is worth 16, 5 is worth 15, 4 is worth 14, 3 is worth 13, 2 is worth 12, and face cards (jack, knight, king) are worth 10. The four best values, one per suit, are summed: whoever has the higher total wins the primiera point.
What is napola in Scopa?
Napola is a bonus point: if you capture the ace, two and three of coins you get 3 points; for each extra card captured in sequence from the ace (4, 5, 6 and so on) the bonus grows by 1 point, up to a maximum of 10 points if you capture the entire coins sequence from 1 to 10. Only one player per hand can score napola, since each card exists only once in the deck.
Is Scopa Online really free and ad-free?
Yes, it's completely free, with no ads, no forced waiting timers, and no tokens or coins to buy to keep playing. No sign-up needed: just open the page and play against the computer.
Can I install Scopa as an app on my phone?
Yes, it's an installable PWA: on Android/Chrome use "Add to Home screen", on iOS/Safari "Share → Add to Home Screen". Once installed it also works offline.
