How the client-side PDF editor works
Unlike most online PDF editors, which upload the file to their own servers to process it, this tool never sends the document anywhere. The page is rendered in the browser with pdf.js, edits are applied as an interactive overlay, and the final PDF is rebuilt locally with pdf-lib only when you export it.
Available tools
Page reordering: drag thumbnails in the sidebar to change their order, rotate them by 90°, or delete them.
Free text: add editable text boxes anywhere on the page, with control over size and color.
Highlighting: draw semi-transparent colored rectangles to highlight content.
Shapes: add rectangles with a colored outline for annotations and boxes.
Permanent redaction: genuinely obscures and removes sensitive content, not just visually — the underlying text can no longer be extracted from the exported PDF.
Digital signature: draw your signature with your finger or mouse and position it wherever you like.
Watermark: apply semi-transparent diagonal text to one or all pages, useful for drafts or confidential documents.

When to use it
You need to make several edits to a PDF in the same session (page reordering, text, signature) without switching between separate tools.
You need to redact (permanently obscure) sensitive information before sharing a document.
You want to apply a watermark to a document before sending it, to protect against unauthorized use.
When NOT to use it
You only need a single, simple operation (e.g. merging two PDFs, splitting pages): our dedicated tools (unisci-pdf, dividi-pdf) are faster for that specific case.
You need to edit a PDF's existing text (not add new text): this editor adds elements on top of the document, it doesn't modify text already present in the PDF.

Common mistakes
Confusing redaction (blackout) with simply overlaying a black rectangle: this tool rasterizes redacted pages to make sure the content underneath can't be recovered by copying the text.
Not checking the final result before sharing a document with redacted content, especially for sensitive information.
Expecting to be able to edit the PDF's original text: the editor adds new elements (text, shapes, signature) on top of the existing document, it doesn't alter text already present.
